Obituary of Virginia Swimley
Virginia Mary "Ginger" Swimley, age 81, of Painted Post, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. She was born on September 3, 1937, in Riverside, the daughter of James E. and Mary L. (Ballman) Swimley.
Ginger worked for her father operating the Gang Mills Diner and worked with various owners after her father passed away. She retired from Corning, Inc. following over 30 years of service.
Ginger started her "Grandmothering" skills with her nephews, Scott and Shane Swimley. Several years later, she was blessed with 5 more grandchildren, Ethan Kriner, Kathryn (Christian Scaia) Carter, Ashley Swimley, Melissa (Shane Thompson) Swimley, and Jennifer Swimley. Her years as a grandmother were the best years of her life. When she thought it couldn't get any better, along came 2 great grandchildren, Lucas Ketchum and Harper Ribble.
She is also survived by her son, William (Tammy) Swimley, daughter, Brenda (Tom) Carter, brothers, Edward Swimley, Clair Swimley, and Roy (Linda) Swimley, and sister, Patricia Duryee. Ginger also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including one very special niece who helped care for her, Teresa (Sam) Dick. Ginger was predeceased by her brothers, George and Daryl Swimley and her sister, Zierda Matteson.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. A celebration of Ginger's life will follow there at 4:00 pm.
Burial will take place at Coopers Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
