William E. Siebold, age 93, of Big Flats, NY passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Bill was born on October 17, 1924 in Danvers, MA, the son of the late Edmund A. and the late Johanna M. (Jensen) Siebold. He married the late Laura A. Simonds on September 16, 1945 in Everett, MA. He and Laura were married 72 years before her death September 21, 2017. During WWII, he served in the European Theater as a radio and radar technician in the 1052nd Signal Corps., US Army. After earning a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University under the GI Bill, he began work in 1951 at General Electric in Lynn, MA. Around 1965, he began his career at Corning Glass Works until his 1988 retirement. On May 3, 1988, Bill was awarded patent #4,741,748 for his invention of a "Heating Oven for Preparing Optical Waveguide Fibers". He enjoyed sailing and racing K-boats on Keuka Lake and delivering Meals on Wheels. He volunteered as a Tax Aide, a debt counselor and a 55-Alive driver instructor. He was an active model railroader and was a member of the Twin Tiers N-Track Club. He is survived by two sons: E. Allen (Judith Johnson) Siebold of Troy, NY and William A. (Tamara Pozzi) Siebold of Beaverton, OR; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 2:00pm. Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W.
