Obituary of Douglas Childs
Douglas Allen Childs, age 57, of Corning, NY passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Doug was born on October 25, 1960 in Cuba, NY to Hope (Frost) Cone and Gary Childs.
Doug retired from the New York State Police in 2010 as an Investigator stationed out of Troop-E, Painted Post with 21 years of service. He was also the co-owner of the Woodhouse Stadium Grill in Corning, NY with Richie Moore, his business partner and most importantly his friend.
Doug will be remembered as a loving and kind hearted man who cherished his children, grandchildren, fiancé, and family. He was a fun loving guy who enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and was an avid hunter in his favorite stand the "suite".
Doug is survived by his mother: Hope (Jerry) Cone of Shinglehouse, PA; father: Gary Childs, of MD; 4 children: Bobbi Lutes of Bolivar, NY; Allen (Jesse) Childs of Bolivar, NY, Kristopher (Whitnee) Childs of Bolivar, NY, and Tamarakye Hoffman-Childs of Corning; fiancée: Lee A. Blaser of Corning; 2 sisters: Diana (Rick) Shaw of Olean, NY, Lorrie(Gregg) Jandrew of Shinglehouse, PA; 5 grandchildren: Kya, Kaitlyn, Konner, Abigail, and Norah; best friends: Randy Dye, Ret. CPD of Corning; Investigator Jimmy Vaughan of the NYS Police , The Woodhouse Stadium Grill family and friends; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Doug loved his fiancée, Lee, very much and was thankful for her coming into his life when she did.
Doug was predeceased in 2010 by his son-in-law: SPC. David Lutes, who laid down his life for his country in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St. Corning, NY on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 11:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:00am. Burial will immediately follow the service in Hope Cemetery in Corning.
