Obituary of Edwin Welch
Edwin Allen Welch, age 90, of Horseheads, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Appleridge Senior Living. He was born on February 10, 1927 in Corning, the son of Raymond and Florence (Allen) Welch. He married Alice Mae Richardson on July 2, 1950 in Corning.
Edwin graduated from Northside High School and the University of Rochester. He was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. Edwin worked for Corning Inc and later for GTE Sylvania in Towanda. Being an avid golfer and an avid Yankees and Giants fan, he was a true sports enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family, orchestrating home projects, and reading. He was a very kind, generous, loving, gentle family man with a witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Alice, whom he adored, son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kate Welch of Doylestown, PA, daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jack Swingle of Sayre, grandchildren, Rebecca (Jacob) Banik, Rachael (Kyle) Westman, Haley (Dave) Kralle, and Ryan (Haley) Welch, great grandchildren, Christina (Dave) Yewdell, David (Carrie) Searfoss, Molly and Caroline Banik, and Julia Alice Westman. Edwin was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Welch and his sister, Patricia Fortin.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A celebration of Edwin's life will follow there at 4:00 pm. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
