Obituary of Thomas Berry

Thomas Preston Berry, Jr., age 54 of Corning, NY passed away on December 25, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born in Bad Cannstatt, Germany on September 16, 1963 to Donna (White) and Thomas Preston Berry, Sr.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Jacksonville University and his Master's Degree in Technical Management from the University of Maryland. Tom's passion for flying led him to a fulfilling career in the airline industry, working for Piedmont Airlines, U.S. Airways, and most recently as a systems engineer for the Mitre Corporation in McLean, Virginia.

Tom's love of flying touched all aspects of his life. Tom earned both private and glider pilot licenses. He was an avid glider pilot with the Harris Hill Soaring Club and served as an advisor to Harris Hill's Junior Flying Club.

Tom was a caring husband to his wife of twenty-five years, Susan Schroeder Berry, whom he married on October 31, 1992. He was a loving father to sons Christopher Hilt Berry, age 22 and Kevin Thomas Berry, age 19, of Corning, NY. Tom was also a devoted son to his parents Donna and Thomas Berry, Sr., of Lynn Haven, Florida.

Tom is also survived by his sister Elizabeth (Bruce) Nelson; niece Wendy Nelson of Orange Park, Florida; sister-in-law Mary Katherine (Mike) Kearns; brother-in-law John (Tina) Schroeder; nieces Natalie, Julia and Caroline Schroeder.

Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, his genuine kindness, and his perpetual love of learning.

Memorial donations may be given to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, 1025 Vermont Ave., NW, Suite 1066, Washington, DC 20005, or to a charity of your choice.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church, 33 E 1st St, Corning, NY 14830 on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00am with Fr. Troy Preston officiating.
