Silas S. Croft Jr., age 90, of Corning, NY died Friday, August 4, 2017 at home due to natural causes. Silas was born June 14, 1927 in Ithaca, NY, the son of the late Silas S. and the late Florence V. (VanGorder) Croft. He married Margaret Croft on May 6, 2014.
Silas served his county in WWII as a merchant marine and later in the United States Army. He retired from Ingersoll/Dresser-Rand. He was a member of the Corning American Legion, VFW and the Moose Lodge. He loved the outdoors and fixing things and was a very outspoken gentleman.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Croft; his grandchildren: James (Lisa) Darcangelo of Bradford, NY, Jonathan (Karen) Croft of Tuscarora, Franklin (Rebecca) Croft, Jr. of Corning, Timothy Croft of Corning, Melvin Croft of Corning and Keith Croft of Corning; great grandchildren: Rian, Aiden, Faith, Audrey, Alex, Xavier, Ashly, Alecia, McKayla, Kira, Blake, Liliana and Kayson; Silas' three children: Patricia Madison of Beaver Dams, Frank Croft, Sr. of Painted Post, Silas Croft III, of Elmira; and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Silas was predeceased by his three siblings: Clifford Croft, Katherine Thurber, and Mary Koontz.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with full military honors at Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
