Martha Swartz

Obituary of Martha Swartz

Martha J. Swartz, age 77, of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital. Martha was born October 2, 1939 in Corning, NY to Duane and Helen (Messer) Wilson.

After working well into her 70's Martha retired from Corning Guthrie Hospital where she thoroughly enjoyed a nursing career which spanned over 35 years. Martha's caring ways and devout dedication to patients and staff made her well liked and recognized in the health community.

Martha was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she had in the past been a Nursery School attendant for several years. Never a concern about herself, she was always worrying about the welfare of others, whether it be a total stranger or a furry friend.

Martha's biggest treasure in life was the time she spent with family, always putting her grandchildren first. She was constantly planning on new adventures for them. Gramma's house was always the meeting place for birthdays, holidays and get-togethers. There was never any confusion as to what she was thinking because she would always tell you "exactly" what was on her mind. We will always love you and forever miss you. "God Speed Gramma". Heaven has just received a "Beautiful Angel".

She is survived by her husband: Wayne Swartz; children: Henry DuVall II, Patrick DuVall, Faith (Michael) Schroeder; brother: William (Skippy) Wilson; grandchildren: Trishia Alexander, Andrea DuVall, Conner DuVall, Michael Schroeder II, Jesse Schroeder, Sarah Schroeder, Spencer DuVall, Allison DuVall; great grandchildren: Samantha Mayer, Mia Schroeder, Adreanna Alexander, Emmarie Alexander, Elise Schroeder; niece and nephew: BC Wilson, Erin Wilson.

Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St. Corning, NY 14830 on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 10:00am-12:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 4:00pm with Rev. Sue Wenner officiating.
