Obituary of Elizabeth Bevins

Elizabeth Bevins, age 92, of Corning, NY passed away May 17, 2017 at Absolut Care Of Three Rivers. Beth was born March 12, 1925 in Great Falls, Montana to Henry and Louise Hamilton. Beth was proud of her family's roots in Montana. Her grandfather Lesley Hamilton, a hardworking, humble man, was actively involved in the growth and development of Great Falls. He was a major contributor to the establishment of the local hospital, YMCA, bank and church.


Beth attended Wells College in Aurora, NY and then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she co-owned an interior decorating business. Beth wed Robert Bevins of Salem, Massachusetts March 12, 1951 and they were happily married for 58 years.


Bob and Beth Bevins moved to Corning, NY in 1953. Beth was employed by the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council for 15 years as a Field Director. After retirement she volunteered at the Rockwell Museum and at Corning Hospital and for the IRS Senior Tax Program as a volunteer tax preparer. Bob and Beth were avid travelers and after his retirement enjoyed vacations to Europe, South America, Alaska and Australia.


Beth had lived the last 6 years at Brookdale Senior Living in Painted Post where she continued to volunteer managing the daily morning Coffee Café. She was also known by the staff and residents as an avid walker, clocking in almost a mile a day.


Beth was predeceased by her parents Henry and Louise Hamilton, husband Robert Bevins, son John Bevins, sisters Dorothy Sancken and Shirley Hamilton, brothers Jack and Lesley Hamilton. She is survived by daughter Melissa Bevins (Michael Robinson) of Hammondsport, NY, son Robert H. Bevins (Barbara) and grandson Robert M. Bevins of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and daughter-in-law Julia Bevins of Anchorage, Alaska.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 10:00AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 171 W Pulteney St, Corning, NY 14830. A reception will follow immediately at the Church. Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery Annex, 210 Upper Delevan Ave, Corning, NY 14830 at 12:30 PM.
