Obituary of Edith Congdon

Edith A. Congdon "Edie" of Campbell, NY, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Ira Davenport Hospital.

Edie was born June 18, 1935 in Hornell to Charles and Marian (Jackson) Thomas. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert L. Congdon (Bob), her parents and two sisters: Phyllis Jenkins and Patricia Mullen.

She graduated from Alfred Almond High School and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She worked at the Campbell School for 29 1/2 years, first as a bus driver and later as a cashier. She volunteered much of her time with the Bath Veterans Administration Center and Southern Tier Food Bank and spent many hours group line dancing at local nursing homes. The grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends remember her fondly as "Meme". She was appreciative of the small things, touched hearts with her kindness, liked to play cards, yard games and enjoyed family game nights, bon fires and gatherings. She spent many exciting days as an avid fan watching her grandchildren in various sporting events and activities. She had a great wit about her and enjoyed the holidays and planning crazy Halloween costumes for her and her husband. She was a great cook and oh, how we loved her pies. Edie loved smiling and laughing, was a planner, frugal, wise, gracious, and took time to stop and smell the roses. She enjoyed music and country line dancing with her friends, a genuine caregiver who often sacrificed her own needs for others. She loved to travel with family and friends and enjoyed going to the beach. She enjoyed caring for and walking her two special dogs, Scout and Maya, whom she loved so much.

She is survived by her daughter: Sandi (Darrell) Cornett of Campbell; two sons: Robert Congdon of Colorado, Thomas (Sally) Congdon of Campbell; 14 grandchildren: Tara and Arin Wright of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ashley Cornett of Colorado, William Cornett of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jason and Monique Congdon of Colorado, Jessica Congdon of Colorado, Nicholas and Maree of Idaho, Kristi and Mike Gorrell of New Berlin, NY, Shannon and Matt Hickey of Rochester, NY, Brandon Congdon of New York, Dakota Congdon of Campbell, Samara Mallernee of Corning, Katie Heverly of Friendship, NY, Alex Congdon of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren: Dylan and Cora Wright of Saratoga Springs, NY, Otto Hickey of Rochester, NY, Leah, Ben, Gracie, Molly and Jase Gorrell of New Berlin, NY, Aisha Congdon of Colorado.
