Obituary of Barbara Gordnier

Barbara J. Gordnier, age 84, of Painted Post, NY passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 13, 2017 at her home.

Barbara was born on April 2, 1932 in Dubois, PA, the daughter of the late Edwin A. and the late Pauline E. (Kline) Bruce. She was a graduate of Galeton Area High School, class of 1950. She married Donald Gordnier on September 15, 1956 in Galeton, PA. He predeceased her in September of 1984.

She began working as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone Company out of Coudersport and Galeton. She then began working in hospitality in Galeton, PA as the co-owner of the Ox Yoke Inn, as well as in Charleston, SC and Corning, NY. She retired from the museum store at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Barbara will be remembered for her love of reading. She enjoyed completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, genealogy, history and trivia – especially Jeopardy. She loved visiting the beach, often taking long walks. She was also known to have a sweet tooth – enjoying cookies, coffee and tea with family and friends.

She is survived by two children: Marc (Carol) Gordnier of Chesapeake, VA, Paula Reber of Northumberland, PA; grandchildren: Beau and Lea Gordnier; sister, Merry (John) Freleigh of Wellsboro, PA; brother, Fred (Janice) Milliron of Clarksville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be planned for a later date. Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
