Lucille Mae Richter

Lucille Mae Richter, age 95, of Painted Post, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 16, 1922 in Corning, the daughter of Elmer H. and Cecile B. (Petticrew) Crants. She married Bob Richter on June 24, 1950 in Corning. He predeceased her on October 22, 2013.


Lucille was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. All who knew her felt her love and kindness. She graduated from Northside High School, and then attended Albany College where she received her Master's Degree. Lucille was a member of the Corning Grace Methodist Church Post War Reconstruction Group having traveled to Frankfort, Germany to help construct a children's hospital. She taught European History in the Corning-Painted Post School District for 20 years and retired in 1977. Lucille was the first female ordained Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post. She was a Docent at the Corning Museum of Glass for many years. Lucille was an avid reader, a member of the Friends of the Library in Corning, and a member Hospital Chapter Q at Corning Hospital. After Lucille retired, she and Bob made many trips to Europe. Their favorite country was Ireland and their favorite city was Vienna, Austria. They also liked to travel to Grand Teton National Park.


She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Richter of Painted Post, sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Rita Richter of Laramie, Wyoming, and Eric and Lorraine Richter of Cumming, Georgia, sister, Virginia Miles of Rochester, grandchildren, Carrie (Brendan) O'Malley of Westport, Ireland, Sarah (Dan) Kaslow of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Michael (Samantha) Fritz of Humble, Texas, Ethan (Natalie) Richter of Laramie, Wyoming, William Richter of Spokane, Washington, Caleb Richter of Laramie, Wyoming, and Rianne (Brandon) Mueller of Gainesville, Georgia, great grandchildren, Quaye, Aidyn, and Ollie of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Violet, Benson, and Baevin, of Westport, Ireland, Cora, Simon, Ruby, and Rosa of Laramie, Wyoming, Everly and Fiona Fritz of Humble, Texas, niece, Jennifer Wilkie of Penfield, NY, nephew, Jim Miles of Rochester, and special friends, Ken, Liane, and Owen Watson of Painted Post, Becky and John Igel of Corning, and Cathy and David Patterson of Painted Post.


A celebration of Lucille's life will take place at the United Church of Painted Post, 201 North Hamilton Street, Painted Post, on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 am.
