Richard "Dick" V. Lewis, age 74, of Painted Post, NY passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Corning Hospital.
Dick was born on November 19, 1942 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Harold V. and the late Mary T. (Pierri) Lewis. He was a graduate of Painted Post High School, class of 1961 – participating in band, wrestling and football. He was employed as a machinist for Corning, Inc., retiring with over 50 years of service.
In his free time, Dick will be remembered for his community involvement. He was a paramedic for the Corning Ambulance, member and past President and Lieutenant of the rescue for the Painted Post Fire Department for 45 years. He served as Mayor and Trustee for the Village of Painted Post and belonged to the Jaycees and the Corning Glass Union. He also had a passion for hunting, wood working and softball – both on the field and coaching for little league
He is survived by a brother, John Lewis of Coopers Plains, NY; children: Richard (Elinor) Lewis of Gillett, PA, Kelly (Larry) Smith of Painted Post, NY, Brian (Heidi) Lewis of Painted Post, NY, Rebecca (Richard) Lathrop of Gillett, PA; grandchildren: Daniel and Jessica Smith, Brandon and Ashley Smith, Marisa McIntyre, Daniel Marino, Quincy Lewis, Morgan Lewis, Kendra Jo Lathrop, Brooke Lewis, Mary Marino, Megan Lewis, Emily Lathrop; great grandchildren, Ella and Leila Smith; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his granddaughter, Samantha McIntyre.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2:00 pm, Pastor Gary McCaslin officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
