Support Groups

• Compassionate Friends support group (loss of a child).  The last Wednesday of each month at 7 pm at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 2872 Westinghouse Road, Horseheads. If you are interested in joining the group, contact Joann at 562-8090 or by email at jmorgan55@stny.rr.com.

• Grief Support Widows and Widowers Group: Facilitated by a volunteer, Judy Snyder.  The Grief Support group meets fourth Friday of every month from 7:00-9:00pm at 357 College Ave in Elmira, NY.  This group is designed to provide a welcoming environment to share with others grieving the death of a partner.

• Grief Group: Facilitated by Chelsea Ambrose, LMSW and Allison D’Aleo.  This group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Taylor Nursing Facility in Bath, NY.  It is open both to the residents of Taylor SNF as well as the community at large.  This group provides the opportunity for members to build a support network and talk with others about their experience after the loss of a loved one.

• New Beginnings: Facilitated by Melissa Oakley, BSW Intern and Chelsea Ambrose, LMSW.  This group is a six session group which meets Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm at the Hospice office located in East Corning, NY.  New Beginnings is for the loss of a spouse or significant other ages 45 and younger.  It is our hope that it will provide an opportunity for “young” surviving spouses to meet with others who have experienced a similar loss.

• Ridge Road Student Grief Group:  Facilitated by Andrea Barber, MSW and Chelsea Ambrose, LMSW.  This group meets once per week for 6-8 weeks at Ridge Road Elementary School in Horseheads, NY.  This group is for children who attend Ridge Rd. School and have lost a parent.  It provides them with an outlet to process their grief and talk with other children who have also recently experienced the death of a parent.
