Biography

Joseph G. Dolley, age 76, of Orchard Street in Savona, NY, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Joe was born in Corning, NY, on September 18, 1933, to Benjamin F. and Helen (Stenger) Dolley. He served his country in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and served in the National Guard for 25 years. He married Barbara Conner in 1957 in Corning. He worked at Corning Glass Works from 1951 until 1994. Joe had been a glass polisher for Steuben. He was a member of the Corning VFW, Campbell American Legion, Corning Moose, VFW Memorial in Bath, and the Mason Lodge 0755 in Savona. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family. Joe was a past commander of the VFW in Painted Post. He was a fire police chief for the Savona Volunteer Fire Department and was a man of many hats.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; five daughters: Karin (Skip) Covert of Seneca, SC, Janice (Dale) Pettitt of Seneca , SC, Kathleen (Roger) VanVorce of Newark Valley, Penny (Brian) Schoonover of Bath, and Christina (Roy) Preston of Corning; son, Francis B. Dolley of Savona; three sisters: Helen Bishop, Bessie (Jack) Holmes of Campbell, and Emma (John) West of Savona; two brothers, Evan Dolley of Horseheads and Thomas Dolley of Painted Post; grandchildren: Michele (Jeff) Crimmins of Wesley Chapel, FL, Heather Pettitt of Seneca, SC, John (Katie) Pettitt of Elmira, Casey Schoonover of Bath, Dylan Schoonover of Bath, Brandon Smith of Newark Valley, and Jessica VanVorce of Newark Valley; great grandchildren: Ashlyn, Haven, Jason, Gabriel, Xavier, and Lily; his favorite pet, Kitty; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was predeceased by his brothers: William, Benjamin, and Francis Dolley and by his son Joseph C. Dolley in 1992.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 25th from 1 - 4 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Seamans Cemetery in Savona.
