He married Florence Kain in 1941. Nicholas graduated from Northside High School in 1930, SUNY Geneseo, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Mansfield University in 1940. He served in the New York Guard from 1941 until 1943. He taught in a one-room school house in Hornby, then later on worked for the Corning Glass Works. He received his 70-Year Pin from Corning this year. He is survived by his wife, Florence; one daughter, Maureen Maloney of Elmira; one son, Thomas (Mary) Tammaro of Painted Post; one brother, Anthony Tammaro of Corning; grandchildren: Julie (Dave) Pepper, John (Jen) Maloney, Tom (Tina) Tammaro, Jr., Anne (Jerry) Laney, Michael Tammaro, Susan Maloney, and Bill Maloney; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Nicholas was predeceased by one sister, Mary Grandi, and by his brothers: Paul, Joe, Pat, Mike, and Alfred Tammaro. Friends may call on Friday July 16, 2010, from 4-7 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Nicholas name to All Saints Parish, 222 Dodge Avenue, Corning, NY 14830.
