Biography

Carl A. Overstrom, age 93, of Olive Street in Painted Post, NY died Friday July 9, 2010.

Carl was born in Corning on March 1, 1917, to Axel and Katherine (Custer/Bierweiler) Overstrom. He was a 1940 Graduate of Colgate College and served his country during World War II in the Air Force. He married Eleanor Johnson on December 2, 1945, in Needham, MA. He retired from Corning Glass Works in 1981 as an engineer. Carl was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Corning.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor; son, John (Cindy) Overstrom of Sunderland, MD; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his daughters, Dorothy Overstrom and Ruth Kline; a brother, Albert Overstrom; and his sister, Betty Huber.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, from 1:30 until 3:30 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:30 PM. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
