Biography

Darla Jean Ober, age 70, of Glen Avenue in Elmira, NY, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Darla was born in Corning, NY, on May 15, 1939, to Harry and Marjorie (Reed) Zoerb. She was a graduate of Painted Post High School and Corning Community College (Nursing). She worked for over 20 years as a charge nurse for the Elmira Psychiatric Center. She enjoyed volunteering for Tanglewood Nature Center, Chemung County Humane Society, RSVP, and LPGA Corning Classic.

Her survivors include two daughters, Kimberly (Sam) DiGiacomo of Horseheads and Alicia (David B.) Ketchum of Painted Post; two sisters: Linda (Edward) Baldwin of Graham, NC, and Kay (James) Crowley of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Raymond (Charlotte) Zoerb of Corning and Gary Zoerb of Montour Falls; aunt, Connie Keeler of Corning; long-time companion, Alex Olszowy; close family friend, Sandy Gardner of Campbell; grandchildren: Anthony and Alyssa DiGiacomo, Jessica and Caryn Ober, and Shanyn Ketchum; daughter-in-law, Mary Vasey; beloved pets: Heidi, Pandy, Mama Claire, and Miss Kitty. Darla was predeceased by her son, Bill Ober, and by her sister, Pam Zoerb.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 13th from 10 - 12 Noon at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will follow calling hours at Noon with the Reverend Donald W. Matthews officiating.
