Biography

Leland F. Harris age 85, of River Road in Lindley, NY died Friday, February 5, 2010 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Leland was born in Lindley on August 22, 1924, to Harlow and Gertrude (Harrison) Harris. He was a graduate of Northside High School. He married Joyce Hammond on August 26, 1943. He and his wife owned and operated Leland F. Harris Incorporated for over 45 years. He was a member of the Lindley Community Church and had been a Deacon for many years, Chairman of the Lindley Planning Board, a member of the National School Bus Transportation Association (NSBTA), from 1977-1979 had been the President of the School Bus Contractors Association, received the Golden Merit Award from the NSBTA in 1979. Leland was on the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Bank in Lawrenceville, PA. In 1991 he was the School Bus Contractor of the Year. He was a charter member of the Lindley Presho Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his daughter, Patsy Harris of Lindley; son: Larry (Jean) Harris of Lindley; granddaughters, Holly (Kevin) Piselli of Jamesville, NY and Wendy (Mark) Dupree of Lindley; great grandchildren, Jordan and Garrett Dupree, and Giovanna Piselli; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many very special friends and neighbors. Leland was predeceased by his wife Joyce in 2009; and by two sisters, Marion Miller and Wilma Welty.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 9th from 5-8pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning and on Wednesday, February 10th from 10 - 11 AM at the Lindley Community Church, corner of Morgan Creek Road and Route 15 in Lindley, NY where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with the Pastor Ron Head officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Lindley.
