Phillips Funeral Home

Welcome!
When the time comes to celebrate your unique life, it is important to choose a funeral home that will honor your memory in a meaningful way. At the family-owned and operated Phillips Funeral Home, we will help you and your family create a special, personalized ceremony that truly reflects your values and traditions.

Phillips Funeral Home has served the Corning community with distinction since 1912. The home’s unique and storied history dates back to its founding in 1912 by the first woman to serve as a funeral director in New York State. Today, our three Owner-Funeral Directors continue that century-plus of tradition rooted in excellence, comfort, and trust.

Phillips is the largest funeral home in Corning and offers the most parking spaces of any facility in the area. The spacious chapel is located on the main level and is fully ADA-accessible to serve visitors of all abilities. In 2021, we completely remodeled our space and we are excited to share our newest amenities with you!

We guarantee that our experienced, friendly and compassionate staff will be there every step of the way to help guide your family through the healing process. Whether you wish to celebrate with a traditional burial, cremation, or a Celebration of Life, we will work together to design a ceremony that truly reflects a life well lived.

Our History

Daniel and Irene Stimson founded Phillips Funeral Home in 1912. At age 19, Irene, a pioneering woman in the funeral business, became the first woman funeral director in New York State. Her daughter, Shirley Sutherland, joined her in the business in 1945 and became a partner in 1958. Together, Irene and Shirley operated Phillips Funeral Home until Irene's death in 1983. Shirley continued operating Phillips Funeral Home until 1990.

Since 1990, the interior of the funeral home has been completely renovated and a beautiful arrangement center has been added. Additional property was purchased that provides parking for more than 90 cars. Along the front of the property an attractively landscaped meditation park, complete with working fountain was built. Phillips underwent a full remodel again in early 2021, and we are excited to share our newest amenities with you!

2012 marked the 100th anniversary of Phillips Funeral Home. A celebration was held and included historical displays, tours of the funeral home, veterans demonstrations, dove releases and live music while refreshments were served.
